BipBip PRO : detailed user manual

Setup : Make a lark’s head knot with the attachment line to secure the BipBip PRO.

  1. Pass the small loop of the attachment line through the handle of the BipBip PRO.
  2. Pass the other end of the line (large loop) inside the small loop.

Installation : 2 adhesive velcro loop patches are supplied with the BipBip PRO in order to attach it to your equipment. (the device is pre-equiped with velcro hooks on the back).
You can stick one velcro on the back of your helmet, and if necessary, stick/sew the second one on the strap of your harness.
If you need to see the LED on the BipBip PRO, you can place it directly on your cockpit, or use the two loop velcros taped together around a riser.

Note : Installation on the harness shoulder strap is recommended.
On the helmet, make sure you always place the BipBip PRO at the back of the helmet, and not on the side, so as to avoid having incoherent beeps due to relative wind variations (for example when the pilot turns his head).

ON : To switch on your BipBip PRO, keep the button pressed for 3 seconds. You will hear the starting melody, followed by the battery level.

  • 3 bips + green LED : battery level 100%.
  • 2 bips + orange LED : battery level 50%.
  • 1 bip + red LED : battery level 10%.

OFF : To switch off your BipBip PRO, keep the button pressed for 3 seconds, you will hear the switch-off melody.

Note: If the LED flashes red every 3 seconds, the battery is empty, the BipBip PRO needs to be recharged.

Volume : You can select from five different volumes with a simple click on the button :

  • minimum
  • medium
  • high
  • boost
  • vario silent + LED (green : rise, orange : lifty, red : sink)

Note: On the ground, changing the volume will activate the vario which by default is silent as long as you have not taken off (configurable, see section “sink alarm settings”).

Weak lift detector : brief modulations indicating a zone of very low lift, not strong enough to thermal but potentially close to a thermal (vario ranging from -30cm/s to the selected climb rate, default +15cm/s).

To enable or disable this option, double click the button at any time when the instrument is switched on.

Note: You can also activate the weak lift buzzer always on at startup, see section “sink alarm settings”.

Vario profiles : Select the audio profile that suits you best.

  • long and progressive beeps for precise information on the climb rate.
  • short and constant beeps for simple and effective lift information.

To switch between profiles, triple-click the button at any time when the instrument is switched on. You will then hear a short demo of the profile on a vario simulation from -8m/s to +8m/s.

Lift settings : You can change the climb rate settings at any time, even just before take-off, by following the diagram above.

To enter the lift vario settings menu :

  1. The BipBip PRO must be switched on.
  2. Then press the button for at least 6 seconds.
  3. Then, each click changes the setting.
  4. When you have chosen the lift sensitivity, double-click to go to the integration time setting.
  5. Each click changes the setting.
  6. Confirm your choice by pressing the button for 4 seconds.

Note: Long integration time gives a more dampened, more integrated response for a better understanding of the lift information. Good for weak Winter thermals with wide turning radius.
Short integration time has an almost instant response. Ideal for chopped down thermals or lee side during Spring.

Charging: The BipBip PRO charges permanently when it is in the sun! Allow about 10 hours of direct sunlight to fully charge it.

When the battery level is low (10%), the LED flashes red. This indicates that you need to recharge the BipBip PRO, either by leaving it in the sun or by charging it via USB.

To recharge it via USB, it must be turned off. The LED glows red, then turns steady green when charging is complete. When the BipBip PRO is charging by solar power, the LED does not indicate anything.

Note: Be careful not to leave the BipBip PRO behind a window or the windshield of your car, this would not charge your BipBip PRO and would damage the battery.

Sink alarm settings : You can change the sink alarm settings at any time, even just before take-off, by following the diagram above.

To enter the sink alarm settings menu :

  1. The BipBip PRO must be switched off.
  2. Then press the button for at least 6 seconds.
  3. Then, each click changes the setting.
  4. If you wish, you can enable or disable take-off detection with a triple-click.
  5. Also, if you wish, you can enable or disable the weak lift buzzer at startup with a double-click.
  6. Confirm your choice by pressing the button for 4 seconds.

Reset: If necessary, you can carry out a factory reset at any time by pressing the button for about 15 seconds: the factory default settings will be restored.
